** Disclosure: I received a Kidioke book for free in exchange for my review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Christmas is right around the corner. Are you still at a lost when it comes to buying for your smallest fan? Then you have to check out Kidioke! Plus, Kidioke has a cool app you can download to go with the book, too. My daughter has made me promise her I will get her another one. I think it’s a great idea. It’s a fun product and plus it’s educational, too. Especially when Haley is now learning to read.
The past few months have been a roller coaster for our family. As many of you know, my kids stay sick. Dray goes to physical and speech therapy. Haley has epilepsy. Which means we spend a lot of time at the local children’s hospital. About two months ago I quit my job. I didn’t want to. But, with how often my kids were sick, I missed a lot of work. I didn’t feel like I was part of the “team.” Because of the missed work it became hard to afford gas. Not to mention paying a babysitter on top of that, too.
Right before I quit, Haley came down with pneumonia. She had just started kindergarten. Which was really awful. Because. from the get go she missed 2 whole weeks of school. Now, we’re just now getting over another case of pneumonia. Poor girl has been through the ringer. But, that doesn’t stop her excitement. She’s a lot of fun. Even if her 3 hour long stories make absolutely no sense. She loves school. Her intelligence is amazing.
Every afternoon Dray and I sit in the car line at the elementary school waiting to pick her up. We’re waiting at least an hour every day. At first it was hard. Dray is only a year old. It’s hard to keep him entertained. I would bring toys, drinks, snacks, and even let him tear up magazines. But, he gets bored fast. Even his favorite toy doesn’t keep him entertained more than a couple of minutes. Especially if we’re in the car and not moving. He’s great for car rides. Just not sitting still and the car isn’t moving.
Thankfully, a few weeks ago, a miracle came into our lives. We discovered Kidioke. Now waiting in the car rider line isn’t so unbearable. He’s entertained the whole time. Which is amazing to me. All thanks to a book. But, a book that we will stock up on this Christmas season.
What is Kidioke?
Kidioke is basically a book that allows your kids to enjoy the “karaoke” side of life. Each book includes a popular song. The Kidoke books also look cool with the side guitar on each book. The books also have a LED timer display. This helps little ones know when each verse will start.
The Kidioke is a great way to help your little one learn to read. In a fun way, too! Parents will love the song selection, too. Kidioke is bringing back the classics that’s for sure.
Check out my post “5 Christmas Family Traditions You Can Start This Year.” One of the ideas is wrapping up 25 books. Then starting December 1st allow your child to open one book each day until Christmas. I can’t wait to see how stoked Haley is when she sees a few Kidioke books in the mix.
If you have a chance to check out the Kidioke series, let me know how you like it. Plus, what’s your favorite one? The songs are oldies but definitely goodies. I’ll post a review of the Kidioke app next week. So, if you’re familiar with the app – shhh! Don’t give any spoilers. 😉
** Disclosure: illumibowl provided me with a free product in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own. They are in no way influenced by receiving the product for free.
For years we’ve struggled with Haley being afraid of the dark. Illumibowl is the remedy to that. Every night we’d leave the bathroom light on for her. I have to be honest when I say nightlights scare me. With any plug in all I think about is fire. Keeping on the bathroom light isn’t a huge hassle. But, the light does shine right under our bedroom door. Sometimes it makes it hard to go to sleep. But, now we don’t have to leave the bathroom light on anymore!
Have you ever seen the television show Shark Tank?! If not, it’s at the top of my list for TV show recommendations. Shark Tank is a television show that airs in the United States and Australia. It features six investors (also known as “sharks”) worth billions. Individuals come on the show hoping that one, or multiple, sharks will invest in their idea. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But, I absolutely love the show!
Illumibowl is one of the products that was pitched on Shark Tank. Of course, like any great product, they made a deal. Kevin O’Leary offered them $100K for 25%. They accepted the deal. I mean, why not? Kevin O’Leary is “Mr. Wonderful” after all. But, what’s all the hype about?
Thanks to Illumibowl we no longer have to keep the bathroom light on all night!
This toilet night light has so many great key features. Its battery life is outstanding. The design is simple but does its job. Plus, it’s affordable.
One size fits all! It fits any toilet
8 different colors to chose from. You can even set it to rotate the colors!
This product doesn’t take up a lot of space either. You can barely notice that it’s there. But, it’s a fun little contraption to have. Great conversation starter, too. I think the Illumibowl will be a huge hit at our house during Halloween this year. Haley already has to tell me every time it changes colors and what color it is.
It’s easy to install, too. You just stick it to the outside of the toilet with the suction cups that are attached to it. The LED light has a suction cup, too. You just put that on the inner rim of the toilet. Really easy to remove and clean, too. Just take a rag to it.
Are your wheels turning now?! I know mine were when I was first introduced to this great idea. You’ll be happy to hear it’s affordable, too! I know that sounds crazy. How can such a cool gadget be super affordable? Don’t ask me. Ask the intelligent individuals who invented this product.
You can find the illumibowl for as little as $12.99 at many retailers. It’s available online as well as in many retail stores.
One of you lucky fine people will have a chance to win your OWN Illumibowl! The fine people at Illumibowl have agreed to gift one lucky reader of Dogs + Kids their very own toilet night light.

Alright all you pro’s out there on raising children! What’s your #1 tip on helping children conquer the “afraid of the dark” fear? Let’s hear it! Although, I have to admit, sometimes I’m not fond of the dark either.
Disclosure: I received a bag of Nature’s Logic Duck & Salmon Meal dry kibble for free. But, as always, all opinions are my own. They are not influenced by the compensation.
Pluto, our Boston Terrier, is full of energy. He’s constantly running, jumping, and playing. To keep his energy going we sometimes buy him a dog food with higher protein. But, when considering a high protein dog food, you have to look at the dog, too. There are also a few more factors that come into play, too. I’ll be honest, when I first owned a dog, I had no idea. I just fed them whatever. They lived long, healthy lives, too.
The thought of a high protein dog food may make some pet professionals and owners shudder. The most important thing to remember is: proteins are essential, but in reasonable portions from top notch sources. So, when you’re looking at the protein amount in dog food, you have to factor in other things. Like the source of protein.
Too much protein in a dog’s diet is sometimes harmful. Their body has a hard time processing the protein. So, it’s found in the dog’s urine. So, when I got my bag of Nature’s Logic, I was a little worried. The protein seemed a big high. But, I had to remember it was important for me to look at the other factors, too.
Nature’s Logic Duck & Salmon Meal Dog Kibble Pros
No synthetic vitamins
No synthetic minerals
#1 Ingredient: Duck Meal
Fruit & veggie concentrated
Always remember, when you’re looking for a dog food. Consider your dogs age, weight, breed, activity level, etc. Your veterinarian will more than likely be happy to discuss a suitable diet for your dog with you.
Another great thing is the kibble size. It’s small. So, it’s great for smaller dogs. It’s also great for older dogs who can’t chew as well. For example, my senior dog Mack. We let him try some of Nature’s Logic, too. Just like Pluto, it’s hard to get a picture of them eating. They love to eat! But, I was able to get a picture of him begging for more. Even through those gorgeous, old man cataract eyes.
So, I feel like the crude protein (36%) is a little on the higher end. But, the great thing is, the protein is coming from good protein sources. Sources that must meet the Association of American Feed Control Officials standards. Plus, you can’t beat the veggies and fruits that are in the mix.
Nature’s Logic Veggie & Fruit Mix
But, what if your dog is sensitive to a certain protein? Nature’s Logic offers a variety of protein mixes. High protein diets are ideal for puppies and dogs with high energy. We sometimes gave dog’s high protein diets that suffered from pancreatitis at the vet office I worked at.
But, remember: I’m not a veterinarian. So, any diet concerns should be discussed with a veterinarian.
Overall, I’m pleased with Nature’s Logic. The protein is all good protein. You can’t beat the variety, either. I think Pluto and Mack give it two paws up. Because they demolished it!
Are you familiar with the Nature’s Logic brand? What’s your opinion? I’d love to know and share feedback with the brand!
My family has trusted Gerber for generations. The brand has stolen the baby industeries heart since 1927. We feel the same about their line of GERBER CEREALS, too. We used their cereals to introduce Haley to solid foods. Dray was introduced to solid food with their cereal, too. Plus, it’s easy to mix in your own purees. Making for a different experience for your baby every time.
Introducing Haley to solids was easy. She was a great eater. Dray is a different story. His first birthday was Sunday. He still has problems eating solid foods. We’ve talked to his pediatrician about it. She says to just give him time. It’s just a different experience for me. I guess because Haley was such a fierce eater. Now she is picky, picky, picky.
I used GERBER CEREALS for Haley quite often. Now, Dray has become a Gerber baby, too. Both of my little ones were introduced to the solid food world through their cereals. But, I must say, the flavor variety has expanded since Haley enjoyed the cereal. I found this out while visiting Walmart. They have a HUGE selection. Which is great. Because, Dray is texture and taste funny.
Dray loves fruit. So, when I saw the GERBER CEREALS Rice & Banana Apple, I was ecstatic! I knew he would love this. Plus, all of the benefits it offers is amazing. WalMart has a great variety of the cereal. So, if you’re in the market, I’d check them out.
I mixed apple puree into the cereal. Dray absolutely loved it. He watched me every time I took the spoon to the bowl. He knew the good stuff was coming.
GERBER CEREALS Benefits
The #1 food source of iron
Two servings equals 90% of the daily iron baby need

Are you just now introducing solid foods to baby? Or are you a professional at introducing them? Regardless of your rank, your baby or toddler will benefit from GERBER CEREALS. Since 1927, Gerber has helped build healthy babies.
Snack time is supposed to be about fun, right?! Well, when you think healthy, you may not think fun. But, it’s important that we feed our little ones healthy snacks. There’s so many snack options available. But, how do you know which one to pick?! I’ve been through the snack time struggle, ya’ll! I want to mix up the creative, healthy snacks. But, sometimes a mama is just tired! But, that doesn’t mean snack time has to be boring and unhealthy.
Dray is finally interested in solid food. It felt as if it took forever to get him into solid food. Haley was a different story. She wanted waffles at 6 months old. Just like any mom, I want to provide my little ones with healthy snack options. Fruits and vegetables are great for this. But, what if you’re on the go? You may have ran out of snacks. If you’re like me, you may have just plain forgot them at home.
I learned one lesson quickly. Remember to bring the snacks! Because, forgetting them can lead to some heartache. Not just on baby’s end. But, on your end, too. We make sure to bring along plenty of baggies filled with yummy snack time options. But, during one outing, I completely forgot the snacks. Which I realized once Dray went from happy baby to I could hardly console him.
The closest store to us was a Publix. Prepackaged snacks aren’t always healthiest. But, that’s when I spotted Gerber® Lil’ BeaniesTM on the shelves. Our family has trusted Gerber for generations. So, why would we trust them any less with it comes to a healthy snacking option?! This was great. I was so excited to let Dray try them out. Not just because they are a healthy snack time option. But, because Gerber is the brand he started self feeding with from the beginning.
Gerber® Lil’ BeaniesTM are easy for Dray to chew. Plus, they help with his pick up skills. He loves them. We don’t have to tell him that they’re healthy.
Gerber® Lil’ BeaniesTM Features
First bean-based snack available in the baby aisle!
Bade from navy beans
2 grams of protein
1 gram of fiber
10% daily value of Vitamin E
No GM ingredients
Dray tried the “White Cheddar & Broccoli.” As you can tell, he was not disappointed!
So, we know these Lil’ BeaniesTM are a win/win for mom and toddler. They’re healthy, no GM products, and your little one will love them! Well, I found another reason why they’re so win/win! Right now, if you purchase them at Publix, you can earn $0.75 with IBotta.
It’s officially Fall here in Georgia! Well, the season began on September 22. So, unfortunately, we aren’t cool enough yet to enjoy fall activities. But, that’s okay. Because football is already on TV. Pumpkin spice everything is already on the shelves. We’ll get our cooler weather, eventually. Then we can enjoy our boots, scarves, bonfires, and marshmallow roasting nights. But, if you are in a cooler area, you may want to escape to somewhere a little bit warmer. Maybe even come see us down here in Georgia?! If so, you have to check out some of the top fall travel destinations in the South!
I love the Fall. Some may shun me for this, but I’m not a huge pumpkin spice fan. I mean, I like it. But, I can live without it. That doesn’t mean I’m not in love with Fall. Because, I absolutely am. In fact, my whole family loves everything about fall. You can even check out our “Fall Bucket List” here. It includes fun things like bonfires and building a scarecrow! Plus, of course, we can’t forget jumping into a HUGE pile of leaves!
During the Fall, there’s so much to experience in the South. There are carnivals and hayrides. Plus, there are quite a few locations that have beautiful scenery. My family has visited many of these locations. Some of them several times. Then there are the locations you see and hear about. Of course, those are part of our Family Fall Bucket List.
Beautiful fall scenery is available worldwide. I can’t wait for the day where I become a world traveler. I’d love for my whole family to be world travelers. But, until that day. I’d love for ya’ll to fill me in on some of the best fall travel destinations. Because, until I’m worldwide, I’ll have to rely on pictures.
Southern Fall Travel Destinations My Family Has Visited
My family loves Gatlinburg! It’s not too far of a drive from our Georgia home. It takes us about 5 hours to get there. Give or take. Plus, the scenery is beautiful on the way, too. It’s situation in the Great Smoky Mountains. So, you’ll get to enjoy the fall foliage of the mountains.
Scenery isn’t the only thing that makes Gatlinburg great. The area is also family friendly. With plenty of things to do and see. With so many dining options, too.
We enjoyed all of the Ripley’s attractions, too. We’re not sure if we will be able to go this year. But, it’s a fall trip we try to plan every year.
Cherokee is another great option for a fall travel destination in the South. Plus, it’s a short drive from Gatlinburg, too. It’s the reservation home for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. The reservation seems to be quite active in the Fall. It’s probably because of the scenery and great choices of entertainment.
There are great local restaurants. We especially like the Pancake House across from the Harrah’s Casino. Plus, you can’t forget about Big Boy’s Restaurant. Which is situated in the heart of downtown Cherokee. The hotel accommodations are nice, too. There’s plenty to do, too. We love the museum.
Savannah may lack in the fall foliage department. That’s if you’re comparing the city to Gatlinburg or Cherokee. But, that doesn’t make the city anymore beautiful. Plus, in the Fall, the weather seems much more tolerable. But, since Tybee Island is so close, you can enjoy the beach, too.
Savannah is a historic city. The hotels are swanky and nice. They have nightly tours. Plus, a lively downtown area. You will have many dining choices, too.
When we visit Savannah we always make sure to eat at a new place downtown. We still haven’t tried them all! The options are endless. We love the candy shop. Plus, the ghost tours are cool. Savannah is supposedly the most haunted city in the country!
The Central Savannah River Area
I have to include my own city. That’s because there is so much to do here. I mean, if you’ve lived here a while, you may beg to differ. But, I’d like to think that happens everywhere. But, if you must do a staycation, there are things you can enjoy here! We have great fall foliage, too. Not to mention, we’re fairly central to all the other Southern fall travel destinations. The CSRA is about 2 hours from Savannah. Then about 5 hours from Gatlinburg and Cherokee.
The Augusta Canal is beautiful year round. But, especially nice during the Fall season. If you visit, a Riverboat tour is a must. That’s where you’ll see some great sights. You can even kayak. It’s a great place to work on your photography skills, too.
There are a lot of dining options, too. With a variety of small local businesses downtown. It seems as if the CSRA is big on supporting small businesses. Which is important. Downtown is currently in the process of being built up. Which I’m so excited for. There’s a civic center downtown, too. A lot of popular artists have visit the center. As well as popular traveling shows, too.
Phinizy Swamp is another breath taking scene, too. There’s ponds, wildlife, and so much more. The walking trails are beautiful. This is another great option for putting your photography skills to the test.
Greeneway Park in North Augusta, South Carolina, which is part of the CSRA, is also beautiful. It has a great walking trail, too.
My family has never stayed in Toccoa. But, we have passed through on many occasions. Including during our Fall family trips. I must say, it’s a beautiful place! Especially in the Fall. The colors are vibrant. The city is just beautiful. Plus, it lays close to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Which is a place that is on my Fall Travel Bucket List.
We always visit Toccoa Falls when passing through, too. Toccoa Falls is a huge, beautiful waterfall. Definitely worth the visit.
I told ya’ll! I am far from a worldwide traveler. I need more experience. Traveling is something I definitely want to do. Bucket list goals, ya’ll. So, I use the internet to travel often. So, I have to tell ya’ll about these other Southern Fall Travel Destinations. They are bucket list worthy. They are on mine. I can’t wait to post about each trip as my family experiences it.
Great Family Southern Fall Travel Destinations
Blue Ridge Railway
I love the concept of the Blue Ridge Railway. That’s why I think it’d be a great fall travel destination. A train takes you on a ride through the Chattahoochee National Forest. The trip is about 26 miles. It takes about 4 hours. But, has two stops.
Cheaha State Park – Delta, Alabama
I have heard that the view at Cheaha State Park is stunning in the Fall. We hope to visit next year!
I have to add to my Fall Travel Destination list, too. So, if you know of anywhere – please let me know!
